The Experience of a Lifetime - MAKING INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIPS

 
The most powerful force in the promotion of international understanding and peace is exposure to different cultures. The world becomes a smaller, friendlier place when we learn that all people — regardless of nationality — desire the same basic things: a safe, comfortable environment that allows for a rich and satisfying life for our children and ourselves. Youth Exchange provides thousands of young people with the opportunity to meet people from other lands and to experience their cultures. This plants the seeds for a lifetime of international understanding.
 
Rotary International's Eastern States Student EXchange Program (ESSEX) organizes all Rotary student year abroad youth study exchanges for 31 Rotary International districts which span 16 states in the eastern United States, Bermuda and Quebec and New Brunswick, Canada. Exchange students study in a foreign high school, experience a foreign culture, live with one or more host families, learn a new language and have the opportunity to travel.

In 2015 ESSEX starting using the YEAH (Youth Exchange Administration Hub) database. All member Rotary Districts with Youth Exchange Programs use the database to facilitate member Districts’ compliance with the United States Department of State (DoS), Council for Student International Education Travel (CSIET) and Rotary International regulations.
