October 18, 2022- Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS) seniors Kathryn Barraclough and Liam Abbey were named the Elizabethtown Rotary Club's Students of the Month for October. This program celebrates and recognizes student achievements by sustaining a culture of learning that values academic success and raises awareness of student contributions to the EAHS community.

Barraclough is the daughter of Steven and Michelle Barraclough of Elizabethtown. As a junior, the high school inducted Barraclough into the prestigious T.H. Ebersole Chapter of the National Honor Society for exhibiting the four pillars of scholarship, character, leadership, and service. 

In the academic arena, the faculty at EAHS recognized Barraclough for outstanding achievement and growth in numerous curricular areas as part of the underclass awards program. Barraclough takes part in numerous school activities. She is a member of the concert and marching bands and the orchestra and pit orchestra. The Lancaster-Lebanon Music Educators Association selected Barraclough for its All-County band. She is also a member of the girls’ tennis team and serves as a student ambassador supporting new students to the high school.

In the community, Barraclough is active with the girl scouts. In addition, she has worked for Willowood Swim Club, and cat sits for local families. Barraclough attends the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mount Joy, PA.

Her plans after graduation include attending a four-year college or university and majoring in painting with a minor in entrepreneurship.

Abbey is the son of Tim Abbey of Elizabethtown and Heidi Abbey Moyer of Manheim. For his efforts in the classroom, the high school faculty recognized Abbey for outstanding achievement and growth in several courses. He earned underclass awards in the areas of greenhouse management and landscape design.

Abbey takes part in numerous school activities. He is a member of the high school orchestra and mountain biking club. In addition, he is president of Roots and Shoots and participates in the school’s Model UN program.

In the community, Abbey is employed by the Masonic Village Elizabethtown in the orchard department.

After graduation, Abbey plans to attend a four-year college or university with an interest in obtaining a degree in the field of botany.
