May 17, 2023- Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS) seniors Lily Heistand and Josh Rudy were named the Elizabethtown Rotary Club's Students of the Month for May. This program celebrates and recognizes student achievements by sustaining a culture of learning that values academic success and raises awareness of student contributions to the EAHS community.

Heistand is the daughter of Stacy and Michelle Heistand of Mount Joy.

In the academic arena, the high school inducted Heistand into the prestigious T.H. Ebersole Chapter of the National Honor Society for exhibiting the four pillars of scholarship, character, leadership, and service. In addition, the high school faculty honored her with an academic excellence award in Advanced Placement Biology at the underclass awards program.

Heistand is active in numerous school activities. She is a student council member and participates in the book club. In addition, she is co-chair of the high school's Four Diamonds Mini-THON. In the athletic arena, Heistand is captain of the girls' soccer and track and field teams. The Lancaster-Lebanon League named Heistand to its all-star teams in 2020 and 2022 and its Big 11 all-league team in 2022.

Heistand has volunteered with numerous local organizations in the community, including the Masonic Village, the GEARS youth soccer program, and Rheems Elementary School field days. In addition, she is active with LCBC Manheim campus.

After graduation, she plans to attend Misericordia University to pursue a degree in biology with a minor in chemistry while in the doctorate of physical therapy program. In addition, Heistand intends to continue her soccer career at Misericorida.

Rudy is the son of John and Michelle Rudy of Elizabethtown.

Rudy is active in numerous school activities. He is the captain of the football team and a baseball team member. In addition, Rudy was selected to the high school’s Homecoming Court and took part in the Four Diamonds Mini-THON.

In the community, Rudy has volunteered with Meals on Wheels and various community service projects as a member of the football and baseball teams. He is employed by Messicks Farm Equipment. In addition, he is active with St Peter’s Catholic Church.

After graduation, Rudy plans to attend the University of Delaware to pursue a degree in finance.
